The Trophy was presented in memory of former panel umpire Lance Moore by his family. It has been awarded since 2003 to the regular YPLN panel umpire with the highest average mark (out of 25) over the season. Captains' marks from Premier Division games do not count as they are covered by a separate umpire panel. Since 2023 the Don Layfield Trophy is awarded to the runner-up.
