It was a big week for the inaugural YPLN Hundred, a competition open to both Premier Division 2 and Championship teams, with most of the first round games now played. Three Championship teams (Brandesburton, Whitkirk and Osbaldwick) have overcome Premier Division 2 opponents to progress to the next round. The Prem 2 teams who also went through, Woodhouse Grange 2s, Carlton Towers, Stamford Bridge and Bridlington, are all having great seasons this year in league and cup competitions. Whatever the result, participating teams seemed to enjoy the quickfire format and the change of scene from the usual T20 matches.
In the Div 1 Readman Trophy just one quarter-final spot remains unfilled after Seamer & Irton beat Sherburn by 58 runs on Thursday.
The Div 2 Dave Conner Trophy saw three quarter-final matches played. As a result, one semi-final tie has now been confirmed as a Leeds vs Hull affair, with Crossgates due to play Hull Strikers after both teams delivered decisive victories this week. Both teams are top of their divisional tables by some margin, so that semi-final should be one to watch. The other quarter-final match played was a Battle-of-Beckett, with Filey (also top of their divisional table) just edging past Thornton Dale in a close-fought match. Their semi-final opponents will be either Rufforth & Marston or Woodhouse Grange 3s who are due to play on Friday.
The remaining cup games this week were all in the Deals Daddy Div 4/5 Trophy, where all four quarter-final fixtures were decided. Dunnington beat South Cave & Brantingham in 15 overs and will face Crossgates 2s who progress due to a concession. The other semi-final will be Stockton & Hopgrove vs Scalby 3rds. Stockton limited Ovington 2s to 88 runs and then knocked them off in 13 overs. Scalby 3rds, on the other hand, needed almost every ball available to them to defeat Thornton Dale 2s in a nail-biting finish.
The coming week will see the Finals Day of the Hethertons Solicitors T20 Plate at Easingwold on Sunday. Carlton Towers, Bridlington, Stamford Bridge and Woodhouse Grange 2s will battle it out until only one remains. The matches start at 10am and the final is scheduled for 4pm. If you can make it along we'd strongly recommend it, as these events are always compelling viewing, with plenty of food and drink to sustain you. There will also be several other cup fixtures during the week and we'll be back with a full report on them all next Monday.
