Sherburn Eversley Cricket Club have enjoyed another outstanding season, with both senior teams showing strong performances and continued growth.
The First XI achieved back-to-back promotions, moving from Ebor Division 4 to Division 3 last season, and now securing their place in Division 2 for the upcoming campaign. This success places them alongside Hillam and Thorner Mexborough, who also earned promotion. The team's consistency and determination have been key to their recent achievements.
The Second XI also made significant strides this year, building momentum with a number of promising performances. Notable contributions came from Ruchira Perera and Sammy Wainwright, both of whom delivered standout displays across the season.
One of the season’s individual highlights came from Ryan Lowe, the club’s new wicketkeeper. In his debut season, Lowe was named Division 3 Fielding Award winner after completing 22 dismissals behind the stumps. His efforts were not limited to the gloves—he also contributed crucial runs, including a match-defining innings against his former club, Tad Magnets.
However, the season ended on a sombre note with the passing of Alwyn Midgley, a long-serving member of the club. Alwyn represented Sherburn Eversley from a young age, earning a reputation as a reliable bowler and respected teammate. Over the years, he collected numerous league titles and bowling honours, and in more recent times served as an umpire, continuing to support the game he loved. His presence will be deeply missed by everyone connected to the club.
Sherburn Eversley move into next season with plenty of optimism, buoyed by recent successes and the memory of a true club legend.
