It is with great sadness that we [Londesborough Park CC] report the passing of Robert Rook after a period of ill health.
Robert was a highly regarded and much-loved member of Londesborough Park Cricket Club. Robert commenced his playing career in the early 1970’s and became Chairman in 1988, a post he held until shortly before his death. As Chairman, alongside other club officials, Robert drove the development and improvement of the ground, including a new pavilion in 1998, an extension ten years later, and ensured the facilities were developed to a high standard.
His love of the ground was obvious to all, and as head groundsman he would spend many hours preparing pitches, maintaining and improving the ground, and training new volunteers up to his high standards.
Robert took particular pride in the development of local junior cricketers and loved sharing the facilities with teams from further afield, the club hosting many representative matches over the years.
The club saw tremendous success and progress under his leadership, and he will be greatly missed by everyone at LPCC.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1pm at All Saints Church Market Weighton on Friday 14th March.
