Premier Division Preview
This Saturday sees the return to action for the sides of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League Premier Division and a change to the divisional structure will add extra pressure for those teams at the wrong end of the table with three, rather than the two of previous years, sides relegated. The opportunity for the champions and runners-up to make the step up to Hunters ECB Yorkshire Premier League North remains as an incentive for those with ambition and for eight of the twelve competing clubs that would be a new experience.
The pick of the opening day’s fixtures is the meeting of STUDLEY ROYAL and YORK neither club having finished outside the top five in the past three seasons. In contrast the match at GOOLE TOWN where WELTON are the visitors features the two sides who were promoted from the old Division One at the end of 2019. Alongside York, SHERIFF HUTTON BRIDGE is the other club fielding their second XI in the division and PICKERING will be the guests at Moor Farm. SESSAY spent two seasons in the Premier League before being relegated and they begin life back in the Senior League with a visit from MALTON & OLD MALTON. Like Sessay, BEVERLEY TOWN were relegated at the end of 2019 but the recruitment of Joe Dale from Acomb should boost their hopes of an immediate return. Dale is the all-time YPLN run scorer for Acomb, with a club best of 98no against Stamford Bridge. WHITKIRK are the first visitors of the season to Norwood Park. In the days other contest HULL ZINGARI play host to FOLKTON & FLIXTON.
