The Yorkshire Premier League Hall of Fame recognises those whose dedication to cricket has extended over decades and whose influence has been felt far beyond the boundary rope. Keith Houlston is a truly worthy recipient.
As a player, Keith enjoyed an outstanding career with Sessay Cricket Club, representing the club with distinction for more than twenty years. His finest playing achievement came in 1976, when he captained Sessay to the National Village Cup Final at Lord's, securing his place in the club's proud history through his leadership and commitment.
While his playing career was distinguished, it is his extraordinary service to cricket that defines his legacy.
For 28 years, Keith has served as Club Secretary at Sessay Cricket Club, providing the stability, organisation and leadership that are so essential to the success of any volunteer-run club. His dedication has helped ensure that Sessay has continued to flourish both on and off the field.
His contribution has extended well beyond his own club. For more than a decade, Keith has served as a respected neutral panel umpire, earning the trust of players and clubs through his fairness, integrity and knowledge of the game. He has also been Secretary of the Pilmoor Evening League for over thirty years, helping sustain one of the region's most valued competitions, while his service as the league's Umpires' Secretary has played a vital role in supporting and developing officiating across local cricket.
Over many decades, Keith has combined leadership, administration, officiating and an enduring passion for the game, making an exceptional contribution not only to Sessay Cricket Club but to cricket throughout the York and Hambleton area. His commitment has enriched the experience of countless players, officials and volunteers, leaving a legacy that will endure for many years to come.
