Division One East & West review
Heworth preserved their York & District Senior Cricket League Division One status with victory in the relegation play-off over Londesborough Park. The match played ay Woodhouse Grange was a tight affair Chris Barratt’s side winning by two wickets with just six balls to spare.
An unbeaten 48 from Charles Rook held together the Park innings as they fought back from 67-5, Kalpesh Maheshwari (3-39) with three wickets early on. Scott Hardwick (26) shared a partnership of 46 for the sixth wicket with Rook before he became one of two wickets for Chris Klays who finished with 2-19 in a total of 173-9.
It was a similar story in Heworth’s innings as they found themselves 61-4 in reply. They were able to pull things round thanks to a solid performance from the middle order trio of Kalpesh Maheshwari (24), Rhys Hughes (25) and skipper Barratt (24). All but one of the six bowlers used took wickets as the game headed towards a gripping finale a crucial flurry from Joe Biggs, who found the boundary three times in just eight balls, but it was Alex Bell who sealed the victory of the final ball of the penultimate over.
