YPLN "Most Valuable Player" Rankings
As a trial, the league published an MVP ranking for each division in 2024 and 2025. Consideration is being given as to whether or not to repeat this in 2026. Please send all feedback to assistant@yplncricket.co.uk
Please note:
YPLN MVP points are not the same as Play Cricket "Club MVP" points. We only count statistics from YPLN league and cup matches, so any runs/wickets etc that a player gets in external competitions (e.g. evening leagues, local cups, Village Cup, National Club Championship etc) don't count towards our MVP rankings.
MVP points for each division only reflect performances in that specific division, and in the associated YPLN cup competition. For example, if you see your name in the Division 2 spreadsheet, the statistics next to your name will only reflect performances in Division 2 league matches and Dave Conner Trophy cup matches. If you have scored runs in another division, they'll show in the spreadsheet for that division.
Only players with 1 MVP point or more in a division are shown in the spreadsheets. Because expensive bowling leads to a deduction in MVP points it is possible that a player will not appear in a divisional spreadsheet even though they have taken a wicket, or scored some runs, in that division.
Our MVP points are calculated differently to Play Cricket's MVP methodology. Our system is as follows:
Batting points
1 MVP point per 20 runs scored
1 MVP point for scoring a half-century
1 MVP point for scoring a century (on top of the point for the half-century)
Bowling points
1 MVP point for each wicket taken
1 MVP point for a five-wicket haul
1 MVP point added for every 20 runs you save your team by bowling economically
1 MVP point deducted for every 20 runs you cost your team by bowling expensively
Fielding points
1 MVP point per catch
1 MVP point per stumping
1 MVP point per run-out
