WESTOW CRICKET CLUB Sunday 7 April 2025
You’ll find Westow Cricket Club nestled on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds not far from Kirkham Abbey and a few miles from the A64 York to Scarborough main road.

We visited on a very sunny Sunday in early April, so no cricket to see just yet. Our venture to the lovely Westow ground deliberately coincided with the first Sunday in the month when a team of fantastic volunteers served visitors with a full English breakfast, or other tasty fare like bacon and sausage sandwiches. Of course we had the superb full English – why wouldn’t we!

The Pavilion was fairly busy with some regular customers, a couple of keen cyclists on their way across the ‘Wolds’, and some less regulars like us!
We chatted with ‘Big Ron’ who told us all about the initiatives that they were running to keep cricket going at their club. The pavilion is very new with the funding raised by the club and the help of the very generous lady who owned the cricket field. Besides the regular bacon sandwiches every Sunday (not forgetting the full English on the first Sunday of the month) their fundraising activities include selling books and the use of the pavilion for functions.

Ron was keen to explain how hard they were working to improve all their facilities which include a new Pétanque ‘terrain’ which brings more people to use the club’s facilities.
It’s a thriving little cricket club who will be in Galtres D2 in 2025. The volunteers that we met were nice welcoming people who clearly enjoyed what they were doing to help the club.

Good luck to Westow for the coming season.
