LEAGUE OPERATIONAL UPDATES
Operational Updates provides clubs with key information they need to stay organised and compliant throughout the season, including important deadlines, updated protocols, essential notices, and regular reminders. The information displayed is not exhaustive and Officials etc should always consult the League Rules..
By 10th April 2026 - PLAYER REGISTRATION
Clubs with teams in the top three YPLN divisions [Premier, Premer II & Championship] must ensure that every player from their club who will compete in these divisions is a fully registered member on play-cricket. For the 2026 season clubs with teams in the Premier Division must ensure that every player from their club who will compete in these divisions is a fully registered member on play-cricket. In basic terms this means no 'TMP' players can be on scorecards in this division.
For guidance on this please contact Simon Hird auditmanager@yplncricket.co.uk
By 31st March 2026 GIRLS CRICKET
As a minimum - Clubs in Premier, Premier II, and the Championship must have a designated Lead Activator for Girls’ Cricket displayed on 'play-cricket' , ideally someone relatable to young female players.
By 31st March 2026 Clubs in the Premier, Premer II & Championship and above must have a girls section in place.
Clubs will have had a planning discussion with YCF staff and should have included girls’ cricket in their club development plans.
MERIT TABLE DISCONTINUED
YPLN League Management Board has taken the decision not to continue with the ‘Merit Table’ moving forward.
The Merit Table has been in existence for a number of years, originally introduced in the York & District Senior Cricket League as a way of monitoring and managing the standards achieved by each club. When the league merged to form the Yorkshire Premier League North, the system migrated across and has remained in place since.
It is important to stress that this change does NOT alter the requirement for captains to complete and submit their post-match reports. Captains must continue to mark and submit reports after every match exactly as they do now. Nothing has changed in terms of the reporting process or the expectations placed on clubs and captains.
Tables relating to these reports will still be collated and published as they always have been.
The only change is that the League will no longer collate all of the information together into a single overall Merit Table.
Ground Safety Directive
The YPLN League requires all member clubs to carry out and regularly review a formal risk assessment of their grounds and facilities.
Clubs must identify any foreseeable hazards that could pose a risk to players, officials, or spectators and take appropriate action to mitigate injury.
In particular [but not exhaustive]:
Boundary edges must not be set directly against hard obstructions (e.g. walls, fences, steps).
A rope or white painted line boundary should be positioned a minimum of 1 metre (or approximately 3 feet) inside any fixed obstruction, with the exception of any tree that stands well inside the boundary.
Additional precautions should be taken where there is a risk of player momentum carrying them beyond the boundary (e.g. fielders sliding).
Clubs are totally responsible for ensuring that reasonable and proportionate safety measures are in place at all times.
Failure to demonstrate appropriate risk management may result in league action.
