HUNTERS ECB Yorkshire Premier League North
CATEGORY 3 (Amateur) PLAYERS
We have issued the following guidance regarding the registration of Category 3 (Amateur) Players. As our league rule makes clear, these are players who are in the UK for genuine non cricketing purposes, and would like to play cricket whilst they are here. Cricketers who fall under this category can only be registered to play in YPLN if they are here for genuine work or study purposes, and not for example on holiday. The players must not receieve any financial assistance from the club, which includes accomodation, airfares etc.

Rule E2.3 - Category 3 players are not eligible to play below the first two Levels of the divisional structure without special permission from the Registration Secretary. This special permission will only be granted for players who fail to meet the Category 1 criteria because they have only recently moved to this country for genuine reasons involving work or study. Clubs must provide written evidence of this when making the application for special permission.

Those registering Category 3 (amateur) cricketers should make special note of the words in the above rule ‘’… recently moved to this country for genuine reasons involving work or study’’. The rule is in place to allow those who are here in England for genuine work or genuine study reasons, not to bring a cricketer from overseas to help strengthen a team where perhaps a club has found the player a job for the summer, and they are here on a work visa. Just because you do not intend to pay them does not make them an amateur.

Clubs who have registered a player as Category 3 (Amateur) prior to Monday 27 May 2024 for the 2024 season must fully complete the supplementary form below. The questions on the form have now been incorporated into an updated Category 3 (Amateur) player registration form.
