The Yorkshire Premier League North Hall of Fame recognises those whose dedication extends far beyond personal achievement. Few players embody that spirit more completely than Jon Flint, whose unwavering commitment to Yapham Cricket Club has spanned more than three decades. 

 

Jon first represented Yapham in 1990 as a young teenager and, from 1995 onwards, became the club's regular opening bowler. He played in Yapham's inaugural Yorkshire Premier League North season in 1998 and, with the exception of changing ends as he matured into the club's senior bowler, has remained a constant presence for more than 25 years, delivering spell after spell from his familiar and much-loved 'Road End'. 

 

A model of consistency and control, Jon has built one of the finest bowling records in league cricket. With more than 600 league wickets to his name and still adding to that tally, he has earned a reputation as one of the competition's most economical and reliable bowlers. Opposing teams have long recognised his importance, with the familiar refrain, "We'll need to see Flinty off," becoming a common feature of match-day conversations. His excellence has also been recognised with numerous club honours and the Yorkshire Premier League North Fielding Award in 2009. 

 

Yet Jon's legacy reaches far beyond statistics. He has captained the First XI on two occasions, always answering the call when his club needed him most. Away from the field, he has willingly undertaken almost every role imaginable—treasurer for the past fifteen years, umpire, scorer, barman, cleaner and organiser—quietly ensuring that the club continues to flourish. 

 

His stewardship of the club's finances has been instrumental in some of the most significant developments in Yapham's history, including the purchase of the club ground, the construction of a new clubhouse, the levelling of the outfield and the development of new outdoor practice facilities. Through his careful leadership, the club has remained on a sound financial footing while continuing to invest in its future. 

 

Respected by teammates, opponents and officials alike, Jon is widely regarded as one of the league's finest ambassadors. His sportsmanship, humility and loyalty exemplify the very best values of recreational cricket. 

 

There may be players who have competed at a higher level, and others who have enjoyed longer careers, but few can match Jon Flint's extraordinary devotion to a single club or the lasting impact he has had on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
