Sunday League Manager's Report
Following the York Vale Saturday league folding at the end of the 2024 season the 2025 season saw a new Sunday League being formed and placed into the YPLN set-up. This league saw existing teams from the Vale League joined by teams from Osbaldwick, Sheriff Hutton Bridge, Pickering & Carlton Towers, who moved from the existing Sunday League, for a full season. We also gave South Milford and New Earswick the option of only playing half season to see if there was an appetite for Sunday cricket at their clubs, this has proved a positive move as both clubs are now hoping to enter a team for the full 2026 season. The league was won by Heworth 3rd and now we have season one under our belt the hope is that from 2026 there will be 2 divisions which will hopefully mean that any mismatches will be kept to a minimum. We have already had Woodhouse Grange confirm they will be entering a side for 2026 and Nawton Grange have also shown an interest in joining for next year.

The existing YPLN Sunday league had been one division for the last few years but after a consulting with all the competing teams it was decided that if we split the league into 2 divisions and the Humber 1 and Humber 2 divisions where born. For the most part this worked really well and we had some very close games in both divisions. Hull Zingari again proved the team to beat and won Humber division 1 and in Humber division 2 Welton Academy ran out the winners which was a big improvement from their 16th place finish in 2024. We will run 2 divisions again next season and if possible we will look to extend which ever division has only 9 teams in with a cup competition.

From my point of view, I would just like to thank all the clubs for their help and patience from both the Vale and Humber divisions and I will be looking at the rule around restrictions on players as I know this caused a few issues.
