Ravenscar Cricket Club held a special game to celebrate the opening of the new Ladies Changing Rooms on 7th September 2024. When a Ladies Select Team from the Scarborough Beckett Cricket League took on a Ravenscar XI in a 20-20 game.
The women's changing rooms, was built by club members with funds provided by Mr Malcolm Oddy in memory of his Grandmother Annie Oddy who resided in Ravenscar. Mr Oddy was born in Scarborough and regularly visited his grandmother in Ravenscar and he has fond memories of watching Ravenscar play cricket when he visited his Grandmother.
The game was 20 overs per innings with Ravenscar batting first. Each batter was in for maximum of four overs ensuring all members of both teams had time at the crease. Several of the women had never played hard ball cricket before and were keen to experience that. Ravenscar scored 106. The women replied with a well deserved score of 68 with everyone contributing to the total.
The match was great fun, lively, action-packed and played with great humour and sporting spirit on both sides. At the end of the game Ravenscar Club provided an excellent tea which was enjoyed both by the teams, their friends and family and people from the local community who turned up to support the event.
